Born in Montana and raised in southern Africa, Judy returned to the United States at the age of 20, earning her doctorate and completing a post-doctoral fellowship at UCLA's Semel Institute. Now a Professor Emeritus from Loyola Marymount University,

She serves those impacted by grief, persistent pain, chronic illness, and breast cancer through compassionate peer-to-peer accompaniment. Her work focuses on walking alongside those who have suffered profound loss as they discover a new meaningful life, often finding deeper purpose and spiritual renewal along the way.

As an author and illustrator, Judy creates inspirational fiction and non-fiction for children and adults that explores themes of faith, hope, and love's transformative power in the face of adversity. Her mission is to help others discover meaning and connection even in life's most challenging seasons, drawing from her own spiritual journey while honoring each person's unique path.
